Patristic Interpretation of Katameros Sundays Gospels
Introduction
The goal of this work is to provide the clergy and sermon givers a verse by verse patristic interpretation of the Sundays Vesper, Matins, and Liturgy Gospels.
The quotations are taken from 2 sources: Catena Aurea and Ancient Christian Commentary on Scriptures
Catena Aurea:
- Catena Aurea is Latin for Golden Chain.
- It is a commentary on the four Gospels collected out of the works of the fathers by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century.
- The commentaries are from all the fathers who preceded Thomas Aquinas, eastern and western.
Ancient Christian Commentary on Scriptures:
It is a 30-volume series encompassing the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, plus the Apocrypha. On each page readers will find the text of scripture, line by line, accompanied by the relevant commentary of the early Church writers whether they are fathers, heretics, or pseudo. This work is done by a big group of scholars led by Thomas C Oden.
Choice of Quotations
The editor of this work included only the quotations from:
- The fathers before Chalcedon Council of 451 AD, whether they are western or eastern.
- The eastern fathers after Chalcedon Council.
The western fathers after Chalcedon Council, pseudo and anonymous writers, and heretics were all excluded.
It is hoped that this work will be translated into Arabic sometime in the near future.
It is also hoped that similar work will be produced for the Katameros Feasts Gospels readings.
For the Glory of God,
